Hanging “Harry Potter” floating candles for fall. Thrifty decorating
These “floating” candles are the perfect whimsical touch for Halloween or Christmas!
I got these cool “Harry Potter” candles last year and we absolutely fell in love with them. They are such a fun addition to our fall and Halloween decorations this time of year. (But I think they could easily be carried over to the holidays!)
Can you believe I haven't seen any of the Harry Potter movies? I know! My sister and son often chastise me about this fact.
But because our son loves it so much, I grabbed these cool hanging candles last year. I immediately hung them in my foyer:

We couldn't wait to get them back this fall!
I changed the way I hung the candles this year, because the hooks attached to them took off some of the drywall when I removed them last year.
I even used a hair dryer to try to loosen them up, and some still did a little damage.
Obviously it's not very noticeable, because I haven't touched them a year later. 😉
I doubled the fishing wire around the pin and tightened it as tight as I could. When you push the pin into the ceiling, it holds it in place.
You don't see the pin at all! And I doubt I'll fill those holes later — they're too small to worry about.
The latest version of these candles is even better, as there is a small hook in the “flame” of the candle to run the fishing line through. I didn't have that so I wrapped fishing string around the flame head instead, which worked fine.
My work is slightly off because of this instead of exactly up and down:
I kind of though! It shows them as they are.
Authentically Floating
Our dripping candle looks more realistic — most of them look plainer to me.
These Harry Potter-inspired candles take two AA batteries each, and last year they easily lasted four weeks. We turn them on almost every evening.
As fun as stick candles:
The candles turn on and off with it and the tip glows when you press the button:
A lot of fun! What a cute, playful addition for this time of year!
I think ours are only meant for indoors, but honestly I think they'll be fine on our covered porch where they won't get rain or snow. They would look really cute in the DIY sparkly witch hats I made years ago!
The candles are actually quite pretty, I think they would look pretty during the holidays too. I might hang them on the Christmas tree this year.
We love the warm, glowing light in the evening:

Remember to remove your batteries when you put them away for next year.
Are you a big Harry Potter fan? Even if you've never seen the movies, these ceiling candles are a fun and whimsical decorating accent for the fall season!
